McAlpine Welcomes Farm Watch Scheme to Tackle Agricultural Crime

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine is urging people to sign up to the ‘Farm Watch’ scheme in a bid to tackle agricultural crime in the region.

 

Ms McAlpine attended the re-launch of the scheme, run by NFU Scotland and Police Scotland, at Dumfries and Lockerbie agricultural show on Saturday 1 August.

 

The scheme works by sharing alerts and crime prevention information relating specifically to farms and rural areas within the region.

 

Commenting, the SNP MSP said:

 

“Rural crime costs those who live and work in rural Scotland around £2 million a year.

 

“It is encouraging that Police Scotland and NFUS are working together to tackle agricultural crime through the ‘Farm Watch’ scheme.

 

“I would encourage as many farmers across the region to sign up to the scheme as possible – the more people sign up, the greater the chance of putting a stop to agricultural crime altogether”
