SNP Council Group comment on Additional Support for Learning
> The D&G SNP Council Group recognises the advantages of training and transferring skills amongst the many different support for learning staff.
>
> SNP Councillors were also keen to support the Area Based model to ensure learning support fits the needs of each local area.
>
> SNP Councillor Rob Davidson commented:
>
> “We recognise that the area-based restructure in Option B, the preferred option, has advantages and in principle we feel it is the right way forward.
>
> “However, in agreeing this in principle, we will continue to exercise the detailed implications of the preferred option in drawing up our budget proposals, particularly the extent of the savings which we are prepared to accept.
>
> “We also wish to see work done now to further improve identification of additional support needs at the earliest possible stage including our nurseries and partner childcare providers. We would have preferred to see that integrated option fully explored and included in the plan brought forward today.
>
> “Indeed we had previously asked for this to be included since it is universally accepted that early identification of support needs greatly benefits the child, parents and Education Department and allows everyone involved to plan for the future. “
