MSP WELCOMES SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT INVESTMENT IN THE REGION

The SNP Scottish Government has shown commitment to Dumfries and Galloway with another substantial investment, says an MSP.

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has highlighted the consistent string of investments in the region, following the announcement of a further £250,000 to create a sports centre within the college complex at the Crichton Campus.

The plans will see office space turned into a fitness suite including exercise equipment, changing rooms and a reception area.

Commenting, the SNP MSP said:

“A new sports centre will be a fantastic asset for Dumfries and Galloway college, offering an enhanced curriculum and leading to increased employment opportunities.  It will also be a great way to attract athletes from across Scotland to access the new facilities.

“This is just the latest in a string of investments in the region from the SNP Scottish Government.  The importance of sports was highlighted with an unprecedented £1million project to deliver 3G pitches in the area.  When Westminster failed, the SNP stepped in to deliver the much needed Hardgrove to Kinmount upgrade as part of a £36 million investment in road schemes across Dumfries and Galloway.”

She added:

“All this comes in spite of a huge cut to Scotland’s capital budget from Westminster.

“I am proud to be a member of a party who have shown such commitment to the south of Scotland.”
