McLeod “delighted” at Tour of Britain announcement
SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Aileen McLeod today (Friday) said she was “delighted” that Castle Douglas will see the finish of the first stage of this year’s prestigious Tour of Britain on Sunday 4th September. It is the eighth time Dumfries and Galloway has hosted a stage finish and the third one in Castle Douglas.
Aileen said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that the Tour of Britain is coming back to Castle Douglas for the third time this year. It is real recognition that this region has so much to offer both serious and leisure cyclists alike – and also that we have gained a well-deserved reputation for staging major events.
“In fact I think Dumfries & Galloway as a whole must now be the most visited region by the Tour of anywhere outside London, which is in itself a real indication of our strength as a contender to feature prominently in this sort of event.
“I’d also warmly congratulate the team involved in securing this event and I look forward to it being both a fantastic spectacle and a boost to the region’s economy.”
