SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Aileen McLeod today (Friday) welcomed the publication of the results of Scottish Power Energy Networks’ first round of consultation on their proposed power lines upgrade, in which SPEN commit to take more time to consider the issues so that the most appropriate proposal is taken forward to the next stage of the process.
Aileen said:
“I welcome the publication of the outcomes of the first round of consultation and I will be reading through the substantial document carefully in due course.
“For the moment I am encouraged that SPEN has recognised that circumstances have changed since their original proposals were drawn up and that they have resolved to take time to consider the issues which have been brought to their attention through the consultation before proceeding further.
“This accords to a good extent with the views expressed to me by a number of the campaigners I have met with, who have made extensively researched submissions, including potential alternative proposals for upgrading the transmission network in the region.
“I will of course continue to take a close interest in this issue, given its importance to significant numbers of people right across the region.”
