MCALPINE TO MEET WITH RAIL OPERATORS TO DISCUSS OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOUTH – WEST

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has written to Abellio requesting a meeting to discuss how the new Scotrail franchise can benefit the South West.

Transport Minister Keith Brown announced last week that the firm will take over the franchise for the next ten years from current operators First Group.

Ms McAlpine congratulated the team on their success and welcomed plans for improved services on the Glasgow – Dumfries – Carlisle line.

The SNP MSP said:

“I was very pleased to hear of the plans Abellio have put together, particularly for wifi on all carriages and improved services on the Glasgow to Carlisle line, which will be a fantastic benefit to my constituents in the south of Scotland.

“As I am sure Abellio are aware – rail travel in the south of Scotland is a vital method of transport for many people – however frequency of services is a major issue – as are high rail fares.

“That is why I have requested a meeting to discuss in more detail how improved rail links can bring economic and social benefits to the region.

“I look forward to working with Abellio to improve rail services in the south of Scotland.”
