Harper calls on Local Councillor MSPs to vote for additional money for local services

> SNP MSP for South Scotland Emma Harper today (Wednesday) urged Tory and Labour MSPs Finlay Carson and Colin Smyth, who are also Councillors on Dumfries & Galloway Council, to back the Scottish Government’s budget tomorrow night, which will see communities across Dumfries & Galloway are set to benefit from an additional £5.114 million in funding for local services.
>
> Both MSPs voted against the budget at Stage 1, even though it would deliver extra funding for their own Council.

> “This Scottish Government budget provides a strong funding deal for Dumfries & Galloway, giving spending commitments in the NHS, education, infrastructure, environment and the economy. For the opposition parties, with the exception of the Greens, to vote against all of this at Stage 1 was deeply disappointing and against the best interests of our communities.

> “I’m was surprised that Finlay Carson and Colin Smyth, who both serve on Dumfries & Galloway Council, should have voted against extra funds for their own Council, when they both regularly urge the Scottish Government to provide more funding for this region.
>
> “But there’s still time for them to drop their opposition and back the Scottish Government’s proposals this Thursday. Labour and the Tories should think again before choosing to vote against extra money for this region. The public aren’t likely to forget that in a hurry.”
