SNP Council Group spokesman and the former Chair of Social Work Services Cllr. Andy Ferguson today (Thursday) welcomed what he termed “The culmination of a concerted effort over the last two financial years to bring about a prudent fiscal structure within Social Work”
Commenting following today’s Social Work Committee meeting, Cllr. Ferguson said:
“It is a tremendous achievement that the 2013/14 final financial out-turn for Social Work returned an overspend of only £49K whilst delivering its share of Council savings targets and without recourse to the special fund set aside to relieve Social Work pressures. This is the first time for many years that the budget has been within manageable parameters and the small overspend is entirely down to meeting the needs of some of our most vulnerable children”.
“This has not been an easy journey and is not a miracle cure. It is the culmination of the great efforts over the last two years by the SNP led Social Work service staff”. Ferguson added “ It would be remiss of me if I was not to thank the hard working staff within both Social Work and the wider Council for all their efforts, working with me and our NHS and Third Sector partners to deliver this very positive outcome”.
