SNP welcome Education Committee commitment to Learning Town cost control

>
> SNP Council Group Leader Andy Ferguson today (Tuesday) welcomed the agreement at the Council’s Education Committee that further progress with Phase 1 of Dumfries Learning Town will be the subject of close monitoring and scrutiny of costs as it develops.

> Cllr. Ferguson said:

> “I’m delighted that the Education Committee has recognised public concern over the very sudden large cost increase in Phase 1 of this project. Whilst I have been a constant supporter of the Learning Town concept, it is absolutely vital that we have a close eye on the cost of this project as it develops.
>
> “The one thing we can’t afford is for costs to spiral further out of control on this crucial project so I welcome the commitment today to regular monitoring and progress reports back to Education Committee. The public need to be reassured that in these difficult times money is not being wasted. We should learn that from the DG One fiasco if nothing else.”
