SNP Council Group leader Rob Davidson has today (Tuesday) criticised Tory Councillors for backtracking on their previous support for a public enquiry and for rebuilding DGOne, positions which they had taken as recently as the special Full Council on 4th July, which considered the matter.
Cllr Rob Davidson commented:
“The Tory position on DGOne is just bizarre. Their plan now appears to be to create the most expensive new car park possible by bailing out of the reconstruction contract at huge expense and demolishing the building, with no plans to build anything at all to replace either DGOne or the current temporary sports facilities.
“Even stranger is their sudden change of heart on the public enquiry, which a matter of weeks ago they not only supported but insisted must have no interference or limitations placed upon it by the Council. Today they simply wanted to ditch it, after we had secured the services of one of the foremost experts in Europe to chair it!
“No-one in the Council, indeed no-one in our region, would have wished to be in this situation and everyone is disgusted by the disgraceful condition of what was supposed to be our flagship leisure centre. What is needed now is an unrelenting focus on putting this mess right once and for all and that is what we are determined to deliver.”
