SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has voiced her support for small businesses in Dumfriesshire and across Scotland as part of the Federation of Small Businesses campaign urging shoppers to spend their festive pay checks with Independent businesses this weekend.

Ms McAlpine said:

“I am very happy to be supporting Small Business Saturday.

“Small businesses are at the heart of Scotland’s economy and it is so important that we back them by shopping local whenever we can.

“Strengthening Scotland’s economy has been a top priority for the SNP throughout our time in office – and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s economic speech earlier in the week further underlined our commitment.

“The SNP has a strong track record on support for business which is one that we are determined to continue to deliver. Despite tough economic times, businesses in Scotland continue to benefit from the most competitive business tax regime in the UK.

“This year, our package of rates relief will help companies to the tune of £600 million – and two of every five small businesses receive support through our Small Business Bonus Scheme. The First Minister has made clear that the Small Business Bonus will continue throughout the next parliament if the SNP are re-elected.

“A strong economy is an essential part of a fairer society and the SNP are determined to provide the best possible support to Scotland’s small businesses.”
