SNP candidate for Dumfriesshire Clydesdale and Tweeddale, Emma Harper has today welcomed the announcement that a new community newspaper will take the place of ‘the Wee Paper’, whose final edition was published in December.
‘The Nithsdale Times’ will be issued fortnightly bringing local news, sport and contributed articles.
Commenting, Ms Harper said:
“It’s great that Sanquhar and District Community Council have decided to produce a paper for the people of Mid and Upper Nithsdale.
“Even in an age of 24 hour news, local papers are still incredibly important. On the whole, local people still trust their local papers to tell them what’s really going on in their neighbourhood.”
She added:
“I hope to support editor Andy McDowall and the team any way I can, and I would urge the local community to get behind this venture.”
