MSPs push for region’s share of affordable homes funding

SNP MSPs are pushing to ensure Dumfries and Galloway gets its share of £3 billion pledged by the Scottish Government for affordable homes.

Following the announcement that the region would receive £6.8 million, Joan McAlpine MSP and Emma Harper MSP last week met with the Housing Minister to discuss future delivery.

Providing good quality affordable homes is a key priority of the Scottish Government, which has committed to deliver 50,000 affordable homes over the next five years.

After the meeting, Joan said:

“We came away knowing the Minister was focussed on delivering for Dumfries and Galloway.

“One of the big challenges will be delivery on the ground, and it’s important that the Council gets its Strategic Housing Investment Plan submitted to the Government as soon as possible.”

Emma said:

“The Scottish Government is making record levels of investment to deliver affordable housing, and I was left In no doubt by the Minister that Dumfries and Galloway will see it’s fair share of that.

“We now need to see the council working with the government by submitting their strategic housing plan – which will guide this investment.”
