South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has today (Monday) written to Minister for Transport Keith Brown, urging him to consider a local organisation for capital investment.
Annandale Transport Initiative, which provide community transport for older and disabled people in the area, desperately need to replace their three mini-buses as they are spending more and more time off-road for repairs.
Since visiting ATI earlier this year, Ms McAlpine has used speeches and questions in Parliament to make the case for ATI to receive capital funding. Today’s letter comes in the wake of a report by the Scottish Parliament’s Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee highlighting the need for capital investment in community transport.
Commenting, the SNP MSP said:
“Finding capital investment is the biggest challenge that community transport schemes face, and today’s report serves to highlight that.
“I am hopeful that the Scottish Government will find a way to offer more support to these organisations in terms of capital funding.”
She added:
“I have seen first-hand the fantastic work that ATI do in the local community and I will do my best to make sure that they are at the front of the queue when the funding does become available.”
