MSP RAISES CONCERNS OVER CARE HOME BLACK OUT

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine is seeking assurances following a power outage that left residents of Allanbank Care Home without power overnight.

The SNP MSP has today (Monday) written to NHS Dumfries & Galloway as well as operators Embrace Group seeking assurances that they are doing everything they can to alleviate the situation, which arose due to an internal circuit fault.

Ms McAlpine has previously represented constituents who have brought complaints about the level of care received at the home, operated by the Birmingham-based Embrace Group.

The majority of beds in the facility are block booked by NHS D&G and the Council.

Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:
“I was concerned to learn that residents in Allanbank Care Home had to go without power due to an internal circuit fault over the weekend.
“Given that the home failed an inspection report back in September, this is the last thing residents and staff need.”

She added:
“It is deeply concerning that the facility, which both NHS Dumfries & Galloway and the Council are heavily involved with, has suffered such a set back whilst it is already failing to live up to the standards of care set by the Scottish Government.
“I have written to the Health Board and to the operators to seek assurances that they are doing everything in their power to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
