McLeod welcomes announcement of new National Resilience Centre

SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Dr Aileen McLeod today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse that a National Resilience Centre will be established at the Crichton Campus. The Centre will build on local good practice in responding to natural emergencies such as the flooding in January of this year or the very severe snow last March.
Aileen commented:
“Communities across Dumfries & Galloway, along with the local Council, have demonstrated they know how to deal with severe weather emergencies and I think that the rest of Scotland could learn from this region’s best practice.
“The National Resilience Centre will help us to develop the very best techniques in responding to natural emergencies and promote the partnership working between different agencies which is vital to responding to emergencies in the best possible way.
“This announcement also further enhances the role of the Crichton Campus as an important facility for the whole region. Combining this development with the major opportunities for future EU funding that could come from the Horizon 2020 programme gives us the potential to keep and create more high-quality, high-paid employment for Dumfries & Galloway.
“I warmly welcome the announcement of the creation of this centre, which will be beneficial not only to Dumfries & Galloway as a region but also to the rest of Scotland.”
