McLeod comments on Kirkcudbright Academy transport

> SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Aileen McLeod today (Friday) welcomed the extension of emergency bus provision for pupils attending Kirkcudbright Academy from outwith catchment but said that a permanent and sustainable solution needs to be found.

> Aileen said:

> “I am pleased that D&G Council has stepped into the breach and provided short-term transport for the coming week and I recognise they are under no obligation to do so. So I warmly welcome their assistance in these unforeseen circumstances.

> “I also recognise that the parents chose to send their children to a school outwith their own catchment, but in all fairness to them, they originally used a timetabled service bus and, when that was withdrawn, arranged for another company to provide transport on a commercial basis.

> “The fact that arrangement has fallen through at very short notice isn’t their fault and in my view it’s vital that we do everything we can to help find a sustainable long-term arrangement. Although there is now a short window in which to do this I am very conscious that a further week may not be enough to get arrangements in place.

> “I’ll be asking D&G Council and Swestrans to do everything they can to help the parents find a sustainable commercial solution.”
