MCALPINE WELCOMES SCOTTISH LAND FUND COMMUNITY BUYOUT SUPPORT

SNP MSP’s from across Scotland have welcomed today’s announcement that the Scottish Land Fund is backing community buyouts with grants to empower communities.

The funding from the Scottish Government’s Land Fund was announced by First Minister, Alex Salmond, at First Minister’s Question Time today.

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine welcomed the announcement that Upper Nithsdale Arts and Crafts Community Initiative Ltd will receive a Scottish Land Fund award of £62,442 to allow the purchase a vacant three storey building and garden on Main Street in Sanquhar.

Ms McAlpine said:

“Sanquhar is a beautiful, historic town and A the Airts is a fantastic organisation. I welcome this expansion and look forward to seeing the building transformed.

“This is a real boost for the community – the people here in Sanquhar have been given the tools to empower themselves by having a stake in their surroundings.

“The SNP Scottish Government is showing its commitment to empowering communities – with a Yes vote and independence we can do so much more and help deliver positive change for communities across Scotland.”
