McAlpine praises work of Solway Recycling

South Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has praised local business Solway Recycling Ltd after a visit to their premises near Shawhead.

Ms McAlpine said:

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Solway Recycling and see first-hand how they turn waste farm plastics into useful farm and garden products.

“I was particularly impressed by the customised picnic benches and smart hen houses – perfect for anyone seeking “the good life”!”

Solway Recycling was established in 1992 and is one of the longest established waste farm plastic recyclers in the world.

Many of the products manufactured by Solway Recycling end up back on the same farms from which waste products have been collected, creating what the company describe as an ecological “closed loop”.

Ms McAlpine said:

“All of Solway Recycling’s eco-friendly products are available to purchase through their online shop and the company regularly send orders overseas.

“The managing director Roy Hiddlestone told me about their ambitions to expand further into European markets.  I have begun to make enquiries on their behalf and have invited the Scottish Government’s Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy to visit the site and see their innovative setup for himself.”
