McAlpine encourages locals to respond to South of Scotland Enterprise consultation

MSP Joan McAlpine is encouraging people in Dumfries and Galloway to respond to the consultation on the new South Scotland Enterprise agency.

 

The consultation – which opened today – is seeking  views on how the agency should take forward its role of transforming the economy of the region.

 

The Scottish Government hopes to hear from businesses, communities and individuals about what it important to them.

 

Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:

 

“I campaigned long and hard for a new South Scotland Enterprise Agency and it is great to see it finally coming together.

 

“It is important that as many individuals, businesses and communities respond to the consultation as possible, and tell the Scottish Government what matters to them, and what support they need to thrive.

 

“This is our chance to deliver a body that will truly make a difference to the economy in our region.”

 

The consultation sets out the aims of the proposed agency – which includes driving economic growth, sustaining and growing local communities, and capitalising on the skills and resources of local people. Locals across Dumfries and Galloway now have the opportunity to contribute to the consultation and to tell the Scottish Government what they want from the new enterprise body.

 

The latest development builds on the work of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership, which has already identified specific areas themes to explore issues key to the success of the South – aided by significant Scottish Government investment in the partnership and infrastructure across the South of Scotland, including a new hospital in Dumfries and Galloway, new schools, and the Borders Railway

 

The consultation is open until the 7th of June.
