MSP Joan McAlpine has welcomed the launch of a new grant scheme launched by Foundation Scotland to provide financial assistance to relieve hardship in those areas affected by recent flooding.
Grants of up to £1000 are available for individuals and families who are suffering financial hardship, and the grant applications can be made in addition to claiming the £1500 available from the Scottish Government.
Ms McAlpine welcomed the opening of the fund for applications and said:
“The immediate and highly effective fundraising appeal launched by Foundation Scotland last month has raised a significant fund which will directly benefit those people most affected by the floods.
“There are a large number of people in this region whose homes and businesses have been severely damaged by the flood waters, and I will be advising those constituents with whom I’m in contact with to take advantage of this opportunity to secure financial support.
“This fund has been raised from generous donations by members of the public, businesses and by funders of Foundation Scotland expressly for the purpose of helping those affected by the floods. We all know that the clean up involved in flood recovery can be difficult and lengthy and so I will be urging my constituents to take this helping hand to help them recover faster.”
Foundation Scotland launched their Flood Recovery Appeal in early January to raise funds to directly support those affected by the floods. Community organisations who are providing immediate relief, who have experienced significant structural or flood damage or who will be providing longer term community rebuilding projects can apply for financial support of up to £5000.
