MCALPINE CONGRTULATES LOCAL CHOIR ON INVITATION TO PERFORMAT BRAVE@HEART AWARDS CEREMONY AT EDINBURGH CASTLE

South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has congratulated Dumfries Community Choir on being invited to perform at the prestigious Brave@Heart Awards ceremony which takes place at Edinburgh Castle tonight.
The Brave@Heart Awards are a celebration of individuals who have shown exceptional bravery in the most difficult of circumstances. The awards were set up by First Minister Alex Salmond in 2010 and see the emergency services and other emergency responders nominate members of the public and members of their professions for acts of immense bravery. The choir were invited by the First Minister after Ms McAlpine asked them to sing for him on his visit to Dumfries last year.
The choir, which started with just 12 participants in a café in Dumfries, has grown to now comprise over 100 members. The group has been involved in a variety of events from welcoming the Olympic Torch to Dumfries to playing at the Wickerman festival for the last two years.

Commenting, the SNP MSP said,

“It is a real privilege for the Dumfries Community Choir to be invited to perform at this important national event which is being held in the fantastic location of the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle. The choir performed for the First Minister during his visit to Dumfries last year and I know he has been keen to hear them perform again”.
