McAlpine calls on opposition to support positive investment in Dumfries and Galloway

SNP MSP Joan McAlpine has challenged local Labour and Tory politicians to back the SNP Scottish Government’s support for jobs, wages and public services in Dumfries and Galloway, in Stage 3 of the budget debate this week.

Even under extreme budgetary pressure from Westminster – the Scottish Government’s budget will benefit Dumfries and Galloway with £5.1 million in funding for local services.

Joan McAlpine MSP has condemned Labour and the Tories for choosing to oppose investment in communities throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:

“Dumfries and Galloway will benefit from an additional £5.114 million in funding for local services.
“And despite continuing Tory austerity, the Scottish Government’s budget will deliver above inflation investment in the NHS.
“This comes on top of additional funding for health and social care partnerships and for schools, with £2.9 million attainment cash going directly to primary and secondary schools in Dumfries and Galloway.
“Additionally – 71% of businesses in Dumfries and Galloway will see either a reduction in their rates, or no change at all after the revaluation.
“It’s time for the opposition to get behind this strong package of investment in Dumfries and Galloway.”
