Labour see sense on budget process says Ferguson
> Leader of SNP Council Group Andy Ferguson today (Thursday) welcomed unanimous agreement to accept an SNP proposal which requires the Council’s minority Labour Administration to engage with other policial groups on their Administration’s proposed budget amendments ahead of budget setting day on 29th February.
>
> Cllr. Ferguson said:
>
> “Common sense has broken out today with unanimous support for my proposal, which requires the Labour minority Administration to engage with other political groups on their proposals to amend the Council’s budget.
>
> “Until today we’ve seen the Leader of the Council communicate with the rest of this Council through the press, rather than getting round the table and building support for his proposals. As the Leader of the Council and Leader of a minority Administration that is his duty to this region.
>
> “That intransigent attitude looked set to continue this morning when he first tried to shout down my proposal, aided and abetted by his Tory allies, following his extended political rant at the Scottish Government. His statement that he “isn’t here to listen to political speeches” served to demonstrate his failure to recognise that others may have a differing view.
>
> “The fact that he has seen sense and reluctantly agreed to get round the table with other political groups is to be welcomed. The SNP Group will examine the Administration’s proposals carefully over the next two weeks – where we agree with them we will be supportive and where we disagree we’ll seek to amend them.
>
> “At all points in this process we will act in the best interests of the people we were sent here to serve.”
>
> Notes:
>
> The text of Cllr Ferguson’s proposal is:
>
> “The Administration agrees to follow their example set out in Appendix 2 of the 2015-16 budget in that they will engage with other political groups in good time for other political groups to meet the deadlines as set out in recommendation 6.”
