SNP MSP Emma Harper today (Tuesday) welcomed the publication of the Scottish Government’s Enterprise & Skills Review, which contains a commitment to establish a new South of Scotland enterprise and skills body, in recognition of the unique social and economic challenges facing the region.
Commenting, Emma Harper said:
“I’m very encouraged indeed by this announcement, which recognises that the South of Scotland has specific challenges which are different to the rest of Scotland, and which therefore require a different approach.
“As I’ve been meeting businesses across Dumfries & Galloway since being elected in May, a common thread has appeared that when it comes to skills in the workforce, training, availability of qualified people and wider economic development, there is a pressing need for an approach which reflects our region’s unique circumstances.
“I will be following this issue closely as the new body is established and I’ll be looking for early engagement on these issues as it is vital that it gets off to the best possible start.”
