SNP candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, Emma Harper, has today called on Labour candidate Archie Dryburgh to return cash donated by Tony Blair, after it emerged he is one of five labour candidates in Scotland being bankrolled by the ex Labour leader.
The discredited former Prime Minister is donating £1,000 to Labour campaigns in more than 100 seats across the UK – including Dundee East, East Dunbartonshire, Edinburgh West, Argyll & Bute and Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale.
Dundee East candidate Lesley Brannan has indicated that she will decline the donation.
Commenting, Harper said:
“Mr. Blair is the man who ruined Labour for many people in Scotland and he led us into an illegal war in which thousands died. “Councillor Dryburgh will need a lot more than Blair’s bad money to defeat me; he’s going to need a party that doesn’t vote along with the Tories.”
“Instead of throwing money at a losing campaign Mr. Blair should be giving his money to the families of the soldiers who died in his illegal war.”
She added:
“Labour in Scotland is already paying the price for being joined at the hip with the Tories – No wonder the SNP is now the party most likely to topple Scotland’s last Tory. People don’t trust Labour.”
