Funding boost for Lockerbie Ice Rink Club
The Scottish Government’s new Ice Rink Support Fund has provided a welcome funding boost for the South of Scotland Ice Rink Club in Lockerbie with news that the group have been given a grant of £50,000.
The funding, distributed by Sports Scotland, was part of a £1.75 million package to help support independent and privately owned or operated ice rinks during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
South Scotland MSP, Joan McAlpine had previously written to funders highlighting the challenges faced by the club and asking if financial support could be made available to protect them going forward.
Annandale North Councillor, Stephen Thompson, said “The Club have worked hard over the last year to secure a future, both with support from national funding and with help from local communities. Good news for curling as we come out of COVID restrictions and in to a new season later this year.”
