Statement from Joan McAlpine MSP on the funding announcement from South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) that they have committed £2.7m over five years to support a new tourism, marketing and destination development programme to be delivered by the new South of Scotland Destination Alliance.
Ms McAlpine said,
“This funding announcement from the SOSE is fantastic news for the region. The tourism sector has been one of the worst hit by the pandemic, especially here in Dumfries and Galloway, so this investment in the South of Scotland Destination Alliance couldn’t have come at a better time as we need to prepare the industry for the time when it is safe to resume.
“I fought hard for SOSE to be established so I’m delighted they’re now up and running and in a position to deliver this package of measures to help the region recover from the worst economic impact for generations.
“The Dumfries and Galloway economy is heavily reliant on the tourism industry so this investment will go a long way to help secure its future and protect vital jobs.”
