Ferguson comments on D&G flooding
>
> SNP Council Group Leader Andy Ferguson today (Thursday) praised the efforts of emergency services, Council workers and local volunteers in responding to the severe flooding and disruption caused by Storm Frank.
>
> Cllr. Ferguson said:
>
> “Wednesday saw some of the worst flooding this region has experienced in a very long time – the worst in 50 years in Newton Stewart and the second highest water levels ever recorded on the Nith in Dumfries. Many communities have been badly affected, from Carsphairn in the north to Stranraer in the west.
>
> “I want to record my thanks to everyone who helped deal with the storm, disruption and flooding, many of whose are still working now without rest to begin the cleanup. Whether it’s our own Council workers, members of the emergency services or local volunteers, the response to this very extreme weather event has been comprehensive and focused.
>
> “Across the region we’ve also seen numerous examples of communities helping to support themselves through this difficult experience. We have strong resilient communities in this region and I know we will recover quickly from storm Frank.
>
> “Once we’ve completed that recovery we must look back at what measures worked well and what we need to improve on – and we will also need to look again at how we design and prioritise flood protection schemes. That is for another day though, and right now we must prioritise getting our communities back on their feet.”
