Business Minister ‘taking close interest’ in Penman’s

MSP Joan McAlpine has written to the Scottish Government expressing concern at the news that Penman Engineering has gone into administration.

 

The South Scotland MSP also spoke at length to Unite Union officials about the Heathhall based firm and hopes to speak with the administrators later this afternoon.

 

She said:

 

“I have written to the Scottish Government and understand that Business Minister Paul Wheelhouse is taking a close interest and will issue his own statement in due course.

 

“Penman Engineering is a long standing firm with history dating back 150 years – it would be an absolute tragedy for the workers if short term financial difficulties were to lead to the closure of the site.

 

“I understand that Penman Engineering has been diversifying lately and offers a number of high quality products and services.  The firm should be an attractive proposition for any potential buyer.”
