SNP COMMENT ON ICC ARREST WARRANTCommenting on the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant, and former Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif, SNP Westminster Leader Stephen Flynn MP said:“Keir Starmer must confirm that the UK government will comply with the International Criminal Court - and do its bit to enforce the arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.“The Prime Minister must also apologise for having previously condoned the Israeli government’s war crimes in Gaza - and now commit to ending all UK arms sales to Israel with immediate effect.“There is no question that the actions of Hamas on October 7th constitute an appalling war crime - but that did not give the Israeli government the green light to carry out its own war crimes against innocent Palestinian civilians.“More than 40,000 Palestinian women, children and men have been killed since the bombardment of Gaza began - and thousands more have been injured or displaced."The Israeli government stands accused of deliberate attacks on civilians and the use of starvation as a weapon of war. The UK government must finally stand firmly on the side of justice and human rights - not the criminal collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”

£470 CONFIRMED AS COST OF LABOUR'S BROKEN ENERGY PROMISESENERGY BILLS ON THE RISE AGAIN UNDER LABOUR THIS WINTERThe SNP has said the Labour Party’s ‘broken promises on energy bills will hit households with an extra £470’ – after Ofgem confirmed this morning that household energy bills will rise again in January. The news comes after a week of weather warnings and freezing temperatures across Scotland.During the general election campaign, Keir Starmer promised voters "My Labour government will tackle the root causes of the cost-of-living crisis and help families save up to £300 off their energy bills" but since winning power energy bills have already gone up by 10% - £149 a year - for a typical household and this morning Ofgem confirmed another £21 rise in January. In total, since coming to power on the promise of a £300 cut, Labour’s broken promises on energy bills will now amount to £470 per household.Last month, Labour Party MPs blocked an SNP amendment to the GB Energy Bill, which would have forced the UK government to reduce energy bills by £300. The Labour Party also blocked another SNP amendment that would have forced the UK government to regularly update parliament on the progress it is making on lowering energy bills.Meanwhile a pensioner, who received the £200-£300 Winter Fuel Payment and the £300 Pensioner Cost of Living Payment last year, will be up to £600 worse off this winter, after the Labour Party abolished both payments for the overwhelming majority of pensioners, including around 900,000 Scottish pensioners.SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson Dave Doogan MP said:“After a week of freezing temperatures across Scotland, households are waking up this morning to the chilling news that energy bills are rising again under a Westminster Labour government."Keir Starmer and the Labour Party promised voters he would reduce energy bills by £300 but instead bills have gone up again on the Labour Party's watch - a typical household will now be paying £170 more a year come January.‘Having cynically promised to cut energy bills by £300 to win votes during the general election, this morning’s announcement by Ofgem confirms that the Labour Party’s broken promises on energy bills will hit households with an extra £470."It's no wonder the Labour Party's poll ratings have plummeted so quickly when they have already broken so many promises - and left millions of households worse off."It's shameful that some of the poorest and most vulnerable people will be forced to choose between heating and eating this winter as a result of Labour Party cuts."The Labour government now needs to reduce bills by £470 to meet its own election pledge, and people want to know when it will happen. They must publish a clear timetable now - or admit if it's destined to be yet another broken promise from the Labour Party."
