Press Release – McLeod welcomes green light for newbuild DGRI business case

SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Dr Aileen McLeod today (Thursday) welcomed the news that plans for a new Royal Infirmary for Dumfries have been given the go-ahead by the Scottish Government’s Capital Investment Group.

Dr McLeod commented:

“This is another important step on the journey to a new state-of the-art hospital for Dumfries & Galloway, so I am delighted that NHS Dumfries & Galloway’s outline business case has been approved.

“The new DGRI will underpin the delivery of health care across Dumfries & Galloway but I noted and particularly welcomed the comments from the NHS highlighting the importance of our community hospitals and NHS Dumfries & Galloway’s commitment to delivering as much care as possible as close to home as possible.

“With building due to commence in 2015 and full occupation of the new hospital timetabled for 2018, it’s not really all that long before current plans become the reality of healthcare for the region. It is also a major investment by the Scottish Government in healthcare in Dumfries & Galloway.”
